Invited to give a lecture on developments in Assyriology, Dr. Uri Gabbay, Professor of Assyriology in the Department of Archaeology of the Ancient Near East and Director of the Ancient Near East Programme at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, paid a heartfelt tribute to Fr. Marcel Sigrist, OP, who died this year, praising his perseverance, his humility, his concern to pass on his knowledge and his zeal for the task which led him to publish some 40,000 tablets throughout his life.
Familiar with the house, Uri Gabbay captivated his audience, taking us along in the footsteps of Friar Marcel Sigrist, from the clay materiality of an inventory tablet in cuneiform characters, to speculative questioning on the concepts of monotheism, hemotheism and polytheism.
